At least 16 people have died and around 30 have been injured in a missile attack on a market in the city of Kostantínovka, in eastern Ukraine. President Volodímir Zelenski has warned that the number of victims could increase, lamenting that innocent people were injured in a peaceful place like a market. Among the fatalities is a child, and at least 28 people have been injured, according to the Ministry of Interior.
Testimonies and recordings shared by the country’s authorities show people walking along the street before an explosion. Rescue teams, police, and medical personnel are working in the area to provide assistance, and the fire has been contained.
Kostantínovka is near the front line and is located in the Ukrainian-controlled part of the Donetsk region. The attack coincided with the visit of US Secretary of State Antony Blinken to Kiev, the capital of Ukraine.
So far, authorities in Moscow have not issued any comments on the matter.
